Microdermabrasion FAQ's

Microdermabrasion Facial FAQ's

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a gentle, non-invasive exfoliating treatment that removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This helps reveal smoother, fresher-looking skin underneath while improving the appearance of dullness, uneven texture, fine lines, and clogged pores.

What does microdermabrasion do for my skin?

Microdermabrasion can help smooth and brighten the skin, improve uneven texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and help keep pores clear. It also creates a smoother surface that can allow your skincare products to absorb more effectively.

Does microdermabrasion hurt?

Microdermabrasion is generally considered a comfortable treatment. Most clients describe the sensation as a gentle scratching or light suction feeling as the exfoliating handpiece moves across the skin. There is typically little to no downtime afterward.

How long does a microdermabrasion facial take?

Treatment time depends on the specific facial and the needs of your skin. A microdermabrasion facial typically takes about 60 minutes, allowing time for cleansing, exfoliation, treatment products, and finishing skincare. Your esthetician can customize the treatment based on your skin's needs.

Will my skin be red after microdermabrasion?

You may experience mild redness or sensitivity immediately after treatment, similar to a light wind or sun exposure. This generally subsides fairly quickly. Your esthetician will recommend appropriate post-treatment skincare and sun protection to help keep your skin comfortable.

How often should I get a microdermabrasion facial?

The ideal frequency depends on your skin type, concerns, and treatment goals. Some clients benefit from treatments approximately every 4–6 weeks, while others may benefit from a series of treatments followed by maintenance appointments. Your esthetician can recommend a schedule based on how your skin responds.

How soon will I see results from microdermabrasion?

Many clients notice their skin feels smoother, softer, and looks brighter immediately after treatment. Results can become more noticeable with a series of treatments, particularly when microdermabrasion is combined with an appropriate home skincare routine.

Can microdermabrasion help with acne and clogged pores?

Microdermabrasion can help remove surface buildup and improve the appearance of clogged pores, making it a useful treatment for some clients with congestion. However, it isn't appropriate for every type of acne, particularly active or inflamed acne. Your esthetician can evaluate your skin and determine whether microdermabrasion or another treatment would be a better choice.

Can microdermabrasion help with fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture?

Yes. By removing dead surface skin cells and stimulating the skin's natural renewal process, microdermabrasion can help soften the appearance of fine lines and improve overall skin texture and smoothness. It is a gentle treatment and results are generally more subtle than those achieved with more intensive resurfacing treatments.

What should I do before and after a microdermabrasion facial?

Before treatment, your esthetician may recommend avoiding certain exfoliating products or treatments that could make your skin more sensitive. After treatment, keep your skincare routine gentle, avoid unnecessary irritation, and use broad-spectrum SPF daily. Your esthetician will provide specific recommendations based on your skin and the products you use at home.

Is microdermabrasion right for my skin?

Microdermabrasion is a versatile treatment that can be customized for many skin types and concerns. However, it isn't the best choice for everyone or every skin condition. During your appointment, your esthetician will assess your skin and can recommend whether microdermabrasion, a Hydrofacial, chemical peel, LED facial, microcurrent treatment, or another option would provide the best results for your individual needs.
